Skradinski Buk, the park's most visited cascade system, drops forty-six meters through seventeen stepped barriers, each pool feeding the next in a geometry that shifts visibly between wet and dry seasons. The park was declared in 1985, protecting not only the waterfalls but 860 plant species, eighteen bat species, and the griffon vulture colonies that nest on the canyon's limestone cliffs.
Krka occupies a karst river canyon cut through Dinaric limestone, a geology shared with Plitvice but expressed here in wider, sun-drenched pools rather than forested seclusion.
